Pelican PC600 Media Replacement was

"Pelican PC600 Media Replacement was so easy use, I couldn't believe it. The instructions were easy to follow, and it was a very quick process. Having just purchased the home, I found out the media hadn't been changed in 7 years, although the water was still OK. After the media change the water is now awesome. Everything worked out so well, I couldn't be any happier. I'm so glad I found US Water online and tried the product."

Q&A

I changed out the media and did the soaking and flush (for hours). I also did the ns3 media at the same time with extensive flushing. I am still seeing black particulate in all my taps 4 weeks later. Any thoughts on why?
Black particulate after a media change is almost always carbon fines (carbon dust). A small amount right after start-up is normal, but if you’re still seeing it 4 weeks later it’s usually either (1) fines that got trapped throughout the home’s plumbing (aerators/shower heads, toilet valves, fridge line, and especially the water heater on the hot side) and keep getting stirred up, or (2) the system is continuously passing fines/media due to an internal issue like a damaged/misaligned riser tube or screen/basket, incorrect underbed, or a backwash/flow setting that isn’t properly clearing the tank. The quickest next steps are to remove/clean faucet aerators and shower heads, flush fixtures starting closest to the unit, and if you see it on hot water, flush/drain the water heater as well. If the particles are hard grains (not dusty) or the issue returns immediately after cleaning/flushes, we recommend calling in so a water specialist can verify the internal screens/riser and confirm backwash/flow settings are correct for your tank size and media.
How long should your new Pelican PC600 Media last before it needs replacement again?
The manufacturer spec for the PC600 carbon media is about 5 years (or roughly 600-650,000 gallons, whichever comes first)
Does this media remove nickel
This media may reduce some dissolved nickel thanks to its KDF-55 content, but the PC600 is not designed or certified for nickel removal. For dependable nickel reduction, we recommend a reverse osmosis system at the drinking tap or a dedicated ion-exchange solution
Do I need to mix Catalytic Carbon and Granular Activated Carbon at the same time?
While it is not necessary to pre-mix the carbons as when fluidized they will naturally mix together, it will not hurt to pre-mix the carbons prior to filling.
What is the weight of the 2 carbons?
Each 0.35 cu ft of carbon weighs approximately 9.6 lbs.
