About Carbon Filters
Common Sizes
Before the early to mid-1990’s, granular activated carbon filters were the norm for chlorine and organics removal, but advanced water treatment techniques demanded better, more refined filtration. It was at that juncture that manufacturers started a strong, one-piece carbon block with an extended life. Carbon block filters are unsurpassed at removing chlorine, sediment, taste, odor and organic contaminants, and due to its highly uniform molded structure, a carbon block filter eliminates the release of carbon fines, as well as channeling and bypass.

About Carbon Filters
Carbon block filters are manufactured using finely powdered activated carbon particles that have been bonded together to form a totally uniform, solid profile with superior adsorptive capacity and kinetic efficiency. Most carbon block filters and cartridge elements are designed to flow in a radial, outside to inside direction resulting in low pressure drop, high flow rate and increased dirt holding capacity.
Manufactured entirely from FDA approved materials, a carbon block filter is suitable for residential point-of-use water filtration, as well as, commercial and food service applications. Our carbon block filters are manufactured from high purity activated carbon and is designed to fit most standard household and commercial housings.
In summary, carbon block filters have supplanted GAC filters in most cases, due to superior filtration of chlorine and chemicals as well as elimination of having to rinse carbon fines. US Water carries carbon block filters from AXEON, Harmsco, Hydronix, Omnipure and of course, US Water’s own Made in America carbon filters.
