Chemical-free UV disinfection for rainwater harvesting and water reuse that keeps its own sleeve clean, tracks its UV dose and signals a shut-off when dose drops. Three 120 V models, rated up to 37.5, 40 and 75 GPM on their spec sheets.
Rainwater and graywater carry more particles and bigger swings in demand than a city supply. Here is what makes this water reuse UV system easier to run and easier to defend.
The 1000R is third-party validated to US EPA UVDGM and NWRI protocols. Its 50-150 mJ/cm² dose band covers the NWRI reuse design doses of 80 and 100 mJ/cm². It runs on 120 V at a published price. Other NWRI-validated options tend to be quote-only, need higher voltage or run reactors in series.
Audits of installed reuse UV systems name sleeve fouling as a key reason they run inefficiently. Every R model wipes its quartz sleeve automatically, and a built-in purge valve keeps water moving through idle periods so the lamps stay on. Many small UV units have no wiper at all.
NIST-calibrated sensors (dual on the 500R and 750R, quad on the 1000R) read UV intensity and UVT. The controller turns those readings into a live dose and alarms when it falls short. The RUN contact opens on alarm or power loss, so a PLC can close a valve or divert to drain.
US Water's WQA-certified specialists work from your UVT, solids, required dose and peak flow. They help you choose the model, the target flow to enter and whether you need a restrictor. The platform handles hardness to 50 gpg and iron to 3 mg/L.
A conventional UV sterilizer puts one lamp in the middle of the water. The R Series turns that around.
Step 1: Water flows inside a quartz sleeve.
Water rises through a quartz sleeve. The lamps sit in air outside it and never touch the water, so a lamp change needs no draining.
Step 2: Two lamps fire from 360 degrees.
Reflectors surround the sleeve, so UV reaches the water from every side instead of from one lamp in the middle. That matters in reuse water, where particles can shade microorganisms from a single light source.
Step 3: Sensors track dose and raise the alarm.
The controller calculates dose against the target flow the operator entered. If dose falls short, the unit alarms and the RUN contact opens. On the 500R and 750R, the optional solenoid also closes on power loss.
Step 4: The wiper keeps the sleeve clear.
A stainless wiper cycles for 5 minutes every 4 hours, with a position switch to confirm it moved. The purge valve bleeds water during no-flow periods; plumb it to a drain. The manual lists lamp replacement as the only required maintenance.

*The 1000R data sheet footnotes a 100 GPM (378 L/min) single-unit maximum. Wetted-parts conformance applies to water up to 73°F (23°C).
Automatic wiper with position switch, purge valve, forced-air cooling, color touchscreen with onboard diagnostics, two dry contacts, remote start/stop, IP51 enclosure.
Hardness to 855 mg/L (50 gpg), iron to 3 mg/L, 5-100 psig. Water temperature 34-104°F (500R/750R) or 34-95°F (1000R).
Mount the unit vertically on a solid wall and plumb the purge valve to a drain. Use metal pipe at the outlet, because water can get hot if the unit runs with no flow. The IP51 enclosure suits a dry mechanical room; for wet areas, ask about a NEMA cabinet system.
Each model's own data sheet is the authority for what it carries. Here is exactly what each one lists.
The 500R and 750R carry no third-party performance validation. Their data sheets read "Validation protocol: Third Party (PENDING)".
Data sheet note: UV Pure's 1000R data sheet lists this option as an automatic solenoid; the 1000R valve US Water supplies is a 2-inch actuated ball valve.
Warranty (per data sheet): 5-year limited on structure, hardware and mechanical parts; 3-year limited on electrical components and quartz sleeves; bulbs 12 months (500R/750R) or 16 months (1000R); sensor probes 1 year. Use genuine UV Pure lamp pairs (408-E300210 for the 500R, 408-C300065 for the 750R, 408-GC19 for the 1000R). Non-original lamps void the warranty and, per the manual, invalidate certification.

Only the 1000R: it is third-party validated to US EPA UVDGM and NWRI protocols, and the 500R and 750R are not. Your authority having jurisdiction decides what it accepts, and some programs, including California's pre-approved treatment trains, name a certification no R model holds. Check with them first; our specialists can help you assemble the documentation.
Pick the 750R when you want longer lamps, more power (222 W vs 196 W) and a higher spec-sheet flow on the same 1-inch plumbing. Both share a minimum 40 mJ/cm² dose row, a 50-95% UVT range and no third-party validation. The right pick depends on your UVT and required dose, not the headline figure, so size against both and talk to us first.
Start with the 1000R when your permit route asks for a validation report, your dose target is above 40 mJ/cm² (its band is 50-150), or your pumps start and stop often. It also suits building-scale demand and sites that want a flow signal from a meter.
It depends on your permit route, so confirm the target with your authority having jurisdiction first. UV dose is the UV energy delivered to the water, measured in mJ/cm². The NWRI reuse design doses of 80 and 100 mJ/cm² sit inside the 1000R's 50-150 mJ/cm² band. The 500R and 750R data sheets list a minimum 40 mJ/cm², so for targets above 40 mJ/cm², start with the 1000R.
The operator enters the target flow on the controller, and the unit calculates dose against it and alarms when dose falls short. The setting does not physically cap flow. If actual flow runs above it, the unit can underdose, so fit the optional flow restrictor (internal on the 500R/750R, external on the 1000R) where peaks could exceed the setting.
Not below each model's listed UVT floor, and above it, lower UVT means less flow per unit. UVT (UV transmittance) is the share of UV light that passes through your water. The data sheets list 50-95% UVT for the 500R and 750R and 55-90% for the 1000R in North America; below those floors, the R Series is the wrong tool. Because UVT changes the sizing as well as the model choice, send us your UVT data and a specialist will help you size it.
Yes, if your source is turbid. UV works best on clear water, and the O&M manual lists a 20 mg/L maximum for suspended solids in reuse applications unless UV Pure's proposal says otherwise, so filter turbid sources upstream. Hardness up to 50 gpg and iron up to 3 mg/L are within the platform's limits.
Typical lamp life is 9,000 hours on the 500R and 750R and 12,000 hours on the 1000R. The data sheets allow a maximum of 2 lamp starts per 24 hours on the 500R and 750R and 6-12 on the 1000R, so run the smaller models continuously and let the purge valve handle idle periods. Lamps change without draining.
Every R model is available in multiplex manifolds and cabinets, and the 1000R data sheet lists systems for flows up to 1 MGD. Multiplexing also gives you duty/standby redundancy. These are quoted projects, so start with a call and your peak-flow numbers.
