Which W model fits your effluent flow and UVT
Start with your peak flow. Then check your effluent's UV transmittance (UVT, the share of UV light that passes through the water) and the dose your permit calls for against the table. More flow means lower dose. Lower UVT or a higher required dose means less flow per unit. EPA's guidance is plain: "Any UV disinfection system should be pilot tested prior to full-scale operation."

Flow is each data sheet's single-unit rating. At low UVT or a high required dose, one unit treats less, so size those jobs with a specialist.
Who sets the flow: you do. The operator enters the target flow on the controller, and the unit calculates dose against that flow and alarms when dose falls short. The setting does not physically cap flow; if actual flow runs above it the unit can underdose, so fit the optional flow restrictor where peak demand could exceed the setting.
- Pick the 500W or 750W for up to 40 GPM, UVT of 50% or better, and no validation requirement.
- Pick the 1000W when your regulator wants US EPA UVDGM validation, when flow runs past 40 GPM or UVT drops below 50%, or when the lamps will cycle often.

How self-cleaning Crossfire UV keeps the dose on target
Crossfire is UV Pure's dual-lamp, elliptical-reflector design. Standard on every W model: automatic wiper with position switch, purge valve, forced-air cooling, color touchscreen, remote start/stop, onboard diagnostics and two dry contacts.
Two lamps, light from every side. Water runs through a quartz sleeve while two lamps sit in air beside it. An elliptical reflector sends UV back into the water from 360 degrees. The short light path helps in low-UVT water, and because the lamps sit out of the water, you change one without draining the system.
A wiper that proves it moved. An automatic wiper cleans the quartz sleeve for five minutes every four hours. A position switch confirms it is moving, and the controller posts a "Wiper Not Turning" warning if it stalls.
Sensors that measure, not assume. Dual (500W, 750W) or quad (1000W) UV sensors, calibrated to NIST standards, read UV intensity, dose (the UV energy delivered, in mJ/cm²) and UVT. The controller checks the delivered dose against the target flow you entered, so fouling or an aging lamp shows up as a lower reading, not a guess.
Alarms before a lab result. When dose falls short, the touchscreen alarms and a dry contact opens for your panel or SCADA. Add the optional valve and the unit shuts the line too. Message History keeps the last 100 events for your records.
Why wastewater operators choose the W Series
When Washington State's Department of Health checked UV units at onsite sewage systems, it found "25% could not provide disinfection because the UV bulb was not glowing." The W Series is built so a dark lamp or a fouled sleeve shows up as an alarm, not as a failed sample.

Wastewater applications for the W Series
Small municipal wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) and package-plant effluent: alarm contacts for sites without a full-time operator, and the 1000W where the permit calls for UVDGM validation.
Industrial discharge: 4-20 mA and Modbus report dose and UVT into your SCADA.
Aquaculture and fish hatcheries: disinfection with nothing added to the water.

Operating limits (data sheets and O&M manual): pressurized line at 5-100 psig; hardness up to 855 mg/L; iron up to 3 mg/L; total suspended solids (TSS) up to 20 mg/L per the O&M manual, so pre-filter where TSS runs higher; water 34-104°F (500W, 750W) or 34-95°F (1000W); relative humidity up to 70%. Water outside these limits is not serviceable under warranty.

Certifications and US EPA UVDGM validation (1000W)
Each model carries only what its own data sheet lists. For a permit submittal, send the reviewer that model's data sheet and the O&M manual.
The 1000W data sheet lists performance validation to the US EPA Ultraviolet Disinfection Guidance Manual (UVDGM) protocol, the EPA framework for testing the dose a UV reactor actually delivers. This applies to the 1000W only.
The 1000W data sheet lists the IECEE CB Scheme (international electrical safety testing) and the CE Mark alongside its UVDGM validation.
Each W data sheet lists UL 979, the UL standard for water treatment appliances.
Wetted parts meet NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 and NSF/ANSI 372 for water up to 73°F (23°C). This covers material safety and lead content, not disinfection performance.
The 500W and 750W carry no third-party performance validation. If your permit requires one, choose the 1000W or call a specialist before you order.
How the W Series compares to other effluent UV systems
Small onsite gravity units top out around 10 GPM. Engineered municipal systems are sold by quote. The W Series covers the gap between them.

Which W model is EPA validated, and will my regulator accept it?
Only the 1000W is validated, to the US EPA UVDGM protocol; the 500W and 750W carry no third-party performance validation. Acceptance depends on your permit, so send your regulator the data sheet for the model you plan to buy, and follow EPA's advice to pilot test before full-scale operation.
What happens if the power drops or the dose falls short overnight?
The controller alarms and opens a dry contact you can wire to your panel or SCADA, and the RUN contact also opens on power loss or a cut wire. On the 500W and 750W, the optional 1-inch solenoid valve is normally closed, so it shuts the line on alarm and on power failure. On the 1000W, the optional 2-inch actuated ball valve shuts the line on alarm; ask a specialist how to handle power loss on your site.
What effluent quality does the W Series need?
It needs effluent within these limits: TSS up to 20 mg/L per the O&M manual, hardness up to 855 mg/L, iron up to 3 mg/L, and UVT of 50-95% on the 500W and 750W or 35-80% on the 1000W. EPA notes low-pressure UV is "not as effective" above 30 mg/L TSS, so filter upstream if your solids run high. Send a specialist your lab UVT and TSS results and get a straight read on fit.
500W, 750W or 1000W: which one fits my plant?
Up to 40 GPM with UVT of 50% or better and no validation requirement points to the 500W or 750W. Above 40 GPM, lower UVT, frequent lamp starts or a UVDGM requirement points to the 1000W. The 500W and 750W share the same data-sheet flow, UVT and dose; the 750W has a larger UV chamber (222 W vs 196 W draw), and a specialist can tell you if that difference matters for your effluent.
Why do listings show different flows, and who sets mine?
Your operator sets the target flow on the controller; this page lists one number per model, the data sheet's single-unit flow. The unit calculates dose against the flow you enter and alarms when dose falls short. The setting does not physically cap flow; if actual flow runs above it the unit can underdose, so fit the optional flow restrictor where peak demand could exceed the setting.
Our pumps cycle on and off all day. Is that a problem?
Frequent cycling points to the 1000W: the data sheets list a maximum of 2 lamp starts per 24 hours on the 500W and 750W, and 6-12 on the 1000W. If you are unsure how often your lamps will restart, call a specialist. With the lamps left on, the built-in purge valve flushes the chamber during no-flow periods so it doesn't overheat.
How much upkeep does it need, and what's under warranty?
Plan a lamp change at typical lamp life: 9,000 hours on the 500W and 750W (about a year of continuous running) or 12,000 hours on the 1000W. The wiper cleans the sleeves on its own, and lamps change without draining the unit. The data-sheet limited warranty covers structural, hardware and mechanical parts 5 years, electrical and quartz sleeves 3 years, lamps 12 months (16 on the 1000W) and sensor probes 1 year. Use genuine Hallett UV Pure parts: non-genuine parts void the warranty.
Can we install it ourselves, and what does the line need?
Yes, a qualified contractor can, following the O&M manual. The unit needs a pressurized line at 5-100 psig, a vertical, vibration-free wall mount, a drain for the purge line and metal outlet piping (the manual says do not use PVC). 120 V is standard; for 230 V, which only the 1000W data sheet lists, call for availability. A specialist can walk your installer through it by phone.
Our peak flow is over 75 GPM. Can we run more than one unit?
Yes. The 1000W data sheet notes a 100 GPM maximum flow for a single unit and multi-unit systems up to 1 MGD by quote. Use the Custom & multi-unit quote link or call a specialist with your peak flow and UVT, so the quote reflects your actual effluent.
