Q&A

I have the pelican wf-1354 system prior to a pc-100 and NS6 carbon and softener. Does the wf-1354 still require the chlorine injection or can i remove the chlorine system and still get effective filtration with just the greensand resin.
The Pelican WF-1354 is typically a greensand iron/manganese filter, which usually uses greensand media (such as Greensand Plus or Manganese Greensand). These media types require regeneration or activation to remain effective at oxidizing and filtering iron, manganese, and sometimes hydrogen sulfide. Here's the key point: ✅ Does It Require Chlorine? Yes, in most cases, chlorine (or another oxidizer like potassium permanganate or hydrogen peroxide) is still required unless your system uses a catalytic oxidizing media with adequate dissolved oxygen or an air injection system. Why? Greensand media rely on being "recharged" with an oxidizer (traditionally potassium permanganate or chlorine) to maintain their manganese dioxide coating, which is what oxidizes the iron and manganese in your water. If you remove the chlorine injection system, and the media isn't being regenerated or supported by another oxidant (like an air draw or ozone), then the WF-1354 will eventually stop working effectively.
