Unlike chemical approaches to water disinfection, UV rapidly and effectively inactivates microorganisms through a physical process. When bacteria, viruses, and protozoa are exposed to the germicidal wavelengths of UV light, they are rendered incapable of reproducing and infecting. UV light has demonstrated effectiveness against pathogenic organisms, including those responsible for cholera, polio, typhoid, hepatitis, and other bacterial, viral, and parasitic diseases.

UV-C How It Works
Dating back to the early 1900s, UV disinfection is energy efficient, carbon neutral, chemical-free, and environmentally friendly. A UV disinfection system bombards the cell walls of organisms with electromagnetic energy in the form of UV-C. The UV-C light inactivates the organism's genetic material and the ability to reproduce. UV disinfection is 20,000 times more energy-efficient than boiling water and costs five times less annually when compared to chlorine disinfection.
