Whole house carbon filter

Q&A

what is the flow rate at 40-60 PSI in 1 inch pipe?
A good design flow is about 6 GPM for this cartridge if you want the advertised chlorine reduction performance. The exact flow you’ll see at 40–60 PSI in 1" pipe depends on the housing, plumbing layout, and pressure drop across the cartridge as it loads up, so pipe size alone doesn’t determine the cartridge flow.
How many gallons of "city water" can be run through these before they would need replacement? Same question for the same size 5 micron sediment filter. I am looking for a 2 step filter set up to put before my deionizer tank for my window washing business and I need to calculate what my annual or anticipated use may be. And how many filters I should stock up on. Thank you.
Use ~32,000 gallons per 4.5″×20″ 10-µm carbon block at ~6 GPM as a conservative planning baseline for chlorine reduction, and note that a pleated 5-µm sediment cartridge doesn’t have a fixed gallon life—service it based on pressure drop (when ΔP across the housing rises about 7–10 psi, clean or replace). If your municipality uses chloramine (not just chlorine), carbon capacity is effectively lower. In that case, consider our chloramine-specific 4.5″ × 20″ carbon block to protect your DI resin and keep performance consistent.
