- Yes—as a whole-house sediment pre-filter for well water, this cartridge is suitable, as long as you’re using a housing that accepts a standard 4.5" x 10" (“Big Blue” 10") cartridge (the product notes it fits most standard 4.5" x 10" housings). It’s a 20-micron pleated polyester filter that’s cleanable/reusable, designed for high flow with a recommended flow rate around 15 GPM, so it’s a good first-stage filter for sand/silt/rust and other visible sediment. Just keep in mind: 20 micron is fairly coarse, so if your well has fine silt you may still want a second, finer stage (e.g., 5 micron) after it, and this cartridge won’t treat dissolved issues like iron/manganese, sulfur odor, hardness, bacteria, etc.—those require additional treatment equipment.
