Carb-Sorb Granular Activated Coconut Shell Carbon

Technical Overview

Carb-Sorb is produced under controlled conditions through high temperature steam activation. Its pore structure enables it to be used for adsorption of both high and low molecule weight impurities from water and diverse liquids.

It is 12 x 40 mesh carbon and it is especially effective for adsorbing trace organic compounds such as vinyl chloride, MTBE, methylene chloride and trihalomethanes/disinfection by-products. Carb-Sorb is certified to NSF/ANSI 61 standard and complies with the requirements for activated carbon as defined by the Food Chemicals Codex (FCC) (8th Edition) published by the U.S. Pharmacopeia.

While US Water Systems has a strong preference for US Made Products, the fact of the matter is that the best premium-grade coconut shell carbon is made in Sri Lanka under very exacting standards and world-class processes. This is not from China, Taiwan or India, but rather from the Worlds Best Coconut Shell Carbon Manufacturer which offers the greatest absorptive capability.

US Water Carbon

"I have a 3 cubic ft carbon whole house backwashing tank. I have surface water in a dug well fed by a 1/3 acre pond fed by a swale that is active almost year round. My water system has a bladder tank, chlorine tank and pump, carbon backwashing tank and a 125 gallon contact tank. I replace the carbon every 5 years. I prefer to vacuum out the old carbon with a wet dry vacuum canister. That way I don’t have to drag the tank outside and dump out the carbon and upset the gravel base and tube. I measured the depth of the carbon when I initially installed it. My water is clear with no chlorine odor and has passed contamination tests for bacteria. I’m very happy with this purchase as it is 1/3 the price of the carbon from my local supplier. Thank you US Water Systems!"

Excellent Product

"Purchased 1 cubic foot to refill a Rain Soft QRS844H carbon tank (holds 0.9 cubic feet). After slowly refilling the system with water, flushed for several minutes. Very surprised to see almost no fines or dust coming through. Residual air in system worked itself out by the next day. Water has been excellent. I will use again in the future."

Q&A

I have a carbon filtration tank next to my whole house filter. Do I just dump out the current carbon and refill the tank with new activated carbon? How do I know when I should replace the Carbon?
Sure! In short, you’ll want to carefully remove and reassemble the carbon tank rather than just dumping it out. That means depressurizing, removing the valve, keeping the distributor tube and any underbed intact, adding the new carbon, and then flushing thoroughly before using it again. You typically replace the carbon when you notice chlorine taste or odors returning, or when performance drops. The timing really depends on your water usage and source. If you share your tank size and water details, a specialist can help you figure out a good replacement schedule.
