Performance based on municipal feedwater: dechlorinated, pre-filtered to 5 microns, 77°F, 65 PSI feed pressure, pH 7.0. Output and recovery vary with temperature, pressure, TDS, and water chemistry. Feed water must have <1 gpg hardness; free chlorine must be 0 ppm. Pre-treatment is required and not included with the system. Minimum feed flow is measured as dynamic flow at 30 PSI at the system inlet — see the Min Feed Flow (GPM) row above for each model's requirement. Pre-filtration is required but not included with the Defender module. At minimum, feed water must meet these limits: <1 gpg hardness, <5 SDI, 0 ppm free chlorine, and <1 NTU turbidity. Depending on your source water, you may need antiscalant injection and/or a carbon filter. Our engineers will review your water analysis and recommend the correct pre-treatment package.
The Defender is backed by a two (2) year warranty from the original date of purchase. US Water Systems will replace any component that fails due to a defect in materials or workmanship during that period, so you can deploy with confidence. Coverage does not include consumables: pre-filters and membranes are routine maintenance items and are excluded, and we make reordering them simple. Proper installation and use within system guidelines keep your warranty in force; our team can walk you through requirements when you order.
No. UV sterilization is not built into the Defender Commercial RO Module. If your application requires microbial control, we offer UV add-on installation using the Pulsar UV series, sized and quoted for your specific flow rate. Contact our team for a UV add-on quote alongside your Defender order.
Base recovery is the percentage of feed water converted to permeate in a single pass through the membrane array. With the concentrate recycle system engaged, reject water is recirculated back through the membranes, pushing total system recovery up to 80%. This significantly reduces water waste, which is critical for operations with high water costs or limited supply.
Both are delivery pumps for moving permeate from the storage tank to your point of use. The SCALA 1 is a compact, self-priming unit suited for smaller distribution runs. The Grundfos CMBE5-62 is a variable-speed, multi-stage pump designed for higher flow demands and longer distribution networks. Our team can recommend the best fit based on your building layout and flow requirements.
Start with your peak daily water demand in gallons. Choose a model that meets or exceeds that figure. Consider that production rates are based on 77°F feed water. Colder water will reduce output. Also factor in storage: a properly sized tank paired with a slightly smaller module often outperforms an oversized module with inadequate storage. All Defender models require a dedicated 220V / 60Hz / single-phase circuit (8.3A for 1.5 HP models, 10.2A for 3.0 HP models). A drain connection is needed for concentrate discharge. Feed water supply should deliver 45–85 PSI at the inlet (30 PSI minimum). The system ships pre-plumbed and pre-wired on the frame. Final connections to your building supply, drain, and electrical panel are all that's required for commissioning.
